This is a quick tip tutorial on how to add text in Procreate version 5.3.5
To change opacity in Procreate, first open your existing artwork, photo, drawing, or file. Click on the layers icon in the upper right corner, which opens your layers menu. Locate the layer you want to change the opacity for. Click on the “N” to open the blending modes. Notice the opacity slider. With your Apple Pencil, slide it to the left to reduce the layer opacity or to the right to increase the layer opacity.

How to Change Opacity in Procreate: Step-by-Step Guide

Learn to adjust opacity in Procreate 5X by following this step-by-step picture guide:
- Open your canvas, artwork, photo, drawing, or file
First, open the canvas, artwork, photo, drawing, or file with layers you want to adjust opacity for.
- Click on the layers icon in the upper right corner
You will see all the layers your canvas consists of. Locate the layer you want to change opacity for.
- Click on “N” to open the blending modes
In your selected layer, click on the letter “N” to open the blending modes. You will see the opacity slider.
- Slide the opacity slider to the left or right to change the opacity
Use your Apple Pencil on the opacity slider to slide to the left and reduce the opacity of your layer or to the right and increase the opacity of the slider.
How to Change the Opacity of a Selection in Procreate Step-by-Step Guide
1. In the open canvas, click on the S icon in the upper left corner
Locate the “S” or selection icon in the upper left corner of the Procreate menu. Click on it to activate the selection menu.
2. Select the selection shape
Based on the nature of your artwork, drawing, photo, or file, choose the selection shape. For example, rectangular, oval, free-hand, or automatic. In my guide, I chose the rectangular selection shape because my artwork has a rectangular shape.
3. Select the part of your canvas for which you want to reduce opacity
Use your Apple Pencil to drag the selection shape around part of the artwork for which you want to reduce the opacity.
4. Swipe down with 3 fingers
Swipe down with 3 fingers to activate the Copy & Paste menu.
5. Copy & Paste menu opens
When you swipe down with 3 fingers, the Copy & Paste menu opens. It includes different actions such as Cut, Copy, Copy all, Duplicate all, and Cut & Paste.
6. Click on Cut & Paste
To create a new layer from your selection, click on the Cut & Paste option in the menu. This will create a new layer from your selection so that you can adjust the opacity on it.
7. Locate the new layer in your layers list
Locate the new layer in your layers list.
8. Click on the N again to open the blending modes
Click on the letter “N” again to open your layers list. You will see the opacity slider again.
9. Slide the opacity slider to the left or right to adjust the opacity
Now slide the opacity slider to the left to reduce the opacity and to the right to increase the opacity of your selection.
Voila! You have just changed the opacity of your layer and your selection.
Overall, adjusting opacity in Procreate is a straightforward process that you can do quickly and easily by following these steps.
