This is a quick tip tutorial on how to add text in Procreate version 5.3.5
To add text in Procreate, first, open a blank canvas or your existing artwork, photo, drawing, or file. Click on the wrench icon in the upper left corner, which opens a menu with actions. Click on the “Add text” action, which places the word “Text” onto your canvas. Type your text. If you want to move your text to your desired position, click on the arrow icon in the upper left corner and use your Apple Pencil or finger to move it.

Time needed: 3 minutes
- Open your canvas, artwork, photo, drawing, or file
First, open your canvas, artwork, photo, drawing, or file to which you want to add text.
- Click on the wrench icon in the upper left corner
Locate the wrench icon in the upper left corner and click on it to open the actions menu.
- Click on the Add text action
Locate the Add text action and click on it.
- Type in your text
This will place the default “Text” on your canvas and opens the virtual iPad keyboard. Use it to type in your text.
- To move the text, click the arrow icon
To move your text to your desired position on your canvas, locate the arrow icon in the upper left corner. Click on the arrow to activate it.
- Move your text
Use your Apple Pencil or finger to move your text to the desired place on your canvas.
- See your text in the layers
Locate the layers icon in the upper right corner and click it. You will be able to see your text among the layers.
Voila! You’ve just added text in Procreate.
Adding text to your Procreate canvas, artwork, photo, drawing, or file can be quite quick using these steps.
